Yet by the same logic, North Vietnam, if it were capable, would be justified in bombing the U.S. mainland.The United States installsmissiles only 50 miles fromNorth Vietnam border. Yettwo years ago we were outraged by the installation of Russian missiles “only 90 miles from our shores.*The United States has used violations of the 1954Geneva agreement to justify' our presence in South Vietnam. Yet that agreement stated that neither North norSouth Vietnam should participate in any military alliance nor allow any military' base under the controlof a foreign state to be established on Vietnamesesoil; and that agreement was broken first by South Vietnam and the United States.The United States claims to be defending the right of the Vietnamese people to a freely-elected democratic government, while we support a Vietnamese government that was not freely-elected and has consistently trampled on the freedoms of its people.The United States claims to be defending the right of the Vietnamese peopleto a freely-elected democratic government, when we have not yet secured the right of Americans in Mississippi and Alabama to a f r e e 1 y-elected democraticgovernment.Nazi Germany committed atrocious crimes against the Jewish people.
