Sam Hits Snag With JudgesSamuel “Peg Leg Sam” Jackson, Negro of 1118 Dunn street, pleaded guilty in Recorder's Court this morning to a charge of assaulting his wife with a deadly weapon.But, Sammy told Judge Norman Gold, after admitting that he had hit his wife, Queenie with an axe handle, both Queenie and the Lord have forgiven him.According to Queenie’s accountof the incident, which took place on Sunday afternoon, January 21, Sammy had been drinking “just a little bit” on the day that he struck her. She told him she was going to church, she said, and that it might do him good to go, too. Then he cursed her and she cursed him, and hehit her, it seems.Sammy told the Judge that heand his wife wouldn't be backtogether if he wasn’t such apraying man.In passing sentence, Judge Gold told the Negro that he couldn't forgive him entirely, even if Godand Queenie had.
