A Visit fbox am Barit Settlfb.—For tbe past few: day a Pa-tuk-we-to, an old chie! of the Mesquaka Indians, who formerly were located at tbis point, has been on a nail to bis old friends,Geo. L. Davenport and A- LeClaire, Ebqs. Tbe old cliief is accompanied by n chief whose unpronounceable name wo hav e I L forgotten. Their object is to obtain advice as ^ to how to proceed to get the annuities piom-iaed them by the government when the tribe removed west of tbe Missouri river. It appears tbat In 1844 tbey removed from Cedar river and located in the Indian Territory ; in 1847 twenty families became dissatisfied with tbe country and. removed back to Towa, and settled in Tama county, where tbe Iowa Leg Mature was petitioned by tbe citizens to let them remain. These Indians have purchased 160 acres of land and are. now engaged in farmiug. This settlement now consists of twenty-seven families—numbering one bun dred and four persons, of wbicli forty-six are adulL males. With two or three exceptions9 »the men are industrious and well behaved.—The aDnuity allowed to the rest of tbo tribe, who remain west of tbe Missouri river, is about $20 per head. The Indian Ageuta have refused to nllow the Indians who returned to Iowa their portion unless tbey would return, Tho old chief, with a shake of the head, said,“ Iowa fine country, good country, beautiful country. Kansas not good ; we no like Kansas.” Pa-luk-we-to is a fiue looking specimen of the red man, and we understand isIstrictly temperate. Ho is a relative of old Morgaa, who, when living, was the head chief of Ilia tribe (Foxes.) On account of tbe deep snows the Indians in Tama county have been nnable to find their usual supply of gameaiid as tbe old chief remarked to a gentleman%with whom he was dining and who was observing lent, “We often bavo fast days this season.?’ The Indians visited the money fort (8tate Bank) and expressed some surprise at the contrast between Davenport now and wbat it was wheu they moved away, some thirty years ago. The old chiefs started for their homes yesterday, beariog with Lbem some suhslaulial tokons of the regards of their old friends alluded to in this item. To-morrow we shall give some interesting iucideuts connected with the personal history of these two old warriors.
