Winter Carnival 1969 is well tinder way.Last night Cheri Decker, junior from Port Washington, was crowned queen and John Besch, sophomore from Appleton, was crowned king.Miss Decker was sponsored by Chi Omega sorority and Besch was sponsored by Tan Kappa Epsilon.Along with the king and queen, a court will reign over the remaining Winter Carnival festivities.Their court consists of Kathy Brown, junior from Madison, sponsored by Alpha. Phi sorority and Kay King, sophomore from Oshkosh, sponsored by Ski Heil-ersMen on the court are Bob^ Messer, senior from Blair, Nebraska! sponsored by Scott Hall North and Steve Berman, senior from Milwaukee, backed by Delta Sigma Phi fraternity.The king and queen and thecourt were announced during intermission of the Al Hirt concert, They will reign over the rest -of Winter Carnival Week which will be culminated by theWinter Carnival Dance and presentation of awards Saturday night In the Union*Jean Kendall, senior from Green Bay and Dick Bid well,senior from Menasha are this year’s Winter Carnival co-chairmen*Over 25 tons of ice arrived today for ice sculpture competiQueen Cheri DeckerJohn Beschtion, Unlike last year, there is plenty of snow for snow sculptures, Some groups began receiving truckloads of ice weeks ago.Preliminaries for the games began Monday. Game elimination will run all week and end Saturday afternoon,“This year we have a lot more entertainment/1 Gall Floether, Reeve Union fine arts director, said* Al Hirt performed last night, and *The Pickens/1 a cof-fee-house circuit group, will perform twice nightly tonight throughSaturday in the Titan Room. No admission is being charged for *The Dickers” performances.In reference to recent campus disturbances, Miss Floether said, *The themes for the sculptures were turned in way before Christmas, and the people involved in the carnival aren’t the same type as those causing all this trouble* Recent incidents should have no bearing at all.”
