Littlelt; Cnnt’d from Page I1Country FabricsTen years ago Nancy Smith and her husband purchased the land oh which the school stood to build a house. The school was in a bad stale of disrepair with leaky roof, broken windows and'wood trim and was swarm ing wilh bees, but was still standing.After their home was built, the Smiths cleared some trees and began to look at the potential of the school. They decided to restore the structure and use it as a fabric shop.First the roof was replaced and the scroll trim under it was remade in spots from wood saved from an outhouse behind the school The lauvered shutters cnulri not he saved except those in the front which were permanent. The outside was painted red with cream trim to complete the original look.AH the window glass was replaced and the original trim was fixed because new complete windows wouldn’t fit the track. The walls were torn off to be replaced with dry wall and to aid in removal of the bees. When the walls were removed, the sound construction of the building was revealed — a tongue and groove horizontal wall built behind the clapboard.The Smiths added a blackboard, shelves and some little desks, and kept the original wood floors, the cloak closet, the double door entry and built ■ in book shelves. The inside work was painted blue to complement the white walls.Worth The TripNancy carries a complete line of fabrics and sewing notions plus erafl kits, trims and patterns, She also carries or can custom order special fabrics for wedding gowns, attendants dresses of formal gowns for proms, etc.“There is no order we cannot fill. said Nancy, including color and type of fabric. We specialize in giving individual attention.”The pleasant atmosphere of the cozy room with an excellent selection of fabrics at reasonable prices makes the trip to Warriors Mark worthwhile for home sewers having quality in mind.Country Fabrics is open Monday and Thursday. 10 a.m. to p.m., Tuesday, Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is closed all day Wednesday.
