Rounding a corner a motorcycle and its rider leaned to the left in an almosl horizontal ]o-sitfon, pushing snow onto undisturbed people.Cars skidded outside a ring of tires and the drivel's attempted to steer them back into the circular track.These were some of the scenes viewed by sj«ctalors before the eighth annual Honeoye Lake winter carnival came to a close last night.Obstacles OvercomePeople traveled over snow-covered Foads, waded lit rough unavoidable mud, slipped on the icy lake surface, and shivered as the chilling wind lore across the lake.The weather didn't seem to bother them. They munched hamburgers in darkened tents and swallowed steaming, hot coffee. They “oo3ielt;i and “aalied as they looked at art and fur exhibits.They climbed into airplanes and soaring into the gray sky, watched as the jwopfc on the lake grew smaller and smaller.They saw youthful hockey players race across the ice and iiil the puck with their wooden slicks. They rode on slods palled by a team of barking dogs. They listened to the roar of the snowmobiles a3 tlic vehicles moved f Si rough the crowds.Twice Postponed % The varied activities wore all part of the colorful carnival staged Saturday and Sunday by the people of Honeoye, a hamlet of Richmond. Honeoye's residents had waited several weeks lo host the affair. Warm wcalh-PstaRAthe weekend weather lliis lime was agreeable and the show went on.Reigning over the carnival was an 18-year-old Falconerlass. Representing Chatauqua. County, Victoria Walker was na *ed queen of the festivities at the Saturday dance. Schuyler County’s delegate to lha contest Martha 0'Grady, was selected as first runner-up. The Miss Congeniality title went to Ran-ca Conley of Steuben County, Carnival officials set the two-day crowd estimate at 48,000.
