Letters fiom Portland C. Hunt and , Wm, Meredith, who recently went to , California, give glowing accounts of (he Golden State. Will is at Los Angeles( , and is tempted to say that his home, at least for the present, will be on thatv side of the Rockies. Chase is at Rivei-side, ihe guest of our once fellow -townsman. Jake Vandegrift, who is in charge of the postoffice at that point. He also met Geo. Marshall and Chas. Byram, both former residents of Clayton. He speaks of ripe oranges and other fruits, of flowers in full bloom, of bare-footed children on the streets, of ladies carrying parasols, etc. He says the weather is too warm to make exercise a pleasure.
