If1Last week was a lively one in tbe Sheriff's office. Oh Tuesday the acceptance, by the Governor, of Mr. Me-, T Crory’s resignation was received, and John Earner, Coroner of this count}*,' by virtue of his office became Sheriff.j William Cotton and Jacob Kium, Deputy Sheriffs, were appointed and sworn in as Deputy Coroners. On Friday the. Commissioners met in special session, and after canvassing the matter all day. on the third ballot appointed Jonathan S. Miller, of Evevlon, Sheriff. Mr. Miller is not very extensivelyknown in this county, but we predict that his actions will give the Commissioners no cause to regret their choice. On Monday last, Mr. Miller’s official bond was accepted, and he was sworn in as Sheriff. Gas is unquestionably, considering all things, the cheapest, saf- j norti est and best light that can be used. Under proper regulations people could use gas and pay themselves for it, but unless they are prompt in their subscriptions now, the opportunity will pass unimproved. Milton Trusler, Esq., was present and made some very appropriate remarks. This was a very interesting occasion, and will long be remembered by those present.
