Banquet, races held by ScoutsGood food and race-lrack excitement highlighted the afternoon of Kustis Cub Pack 6 held its annual Blue and Gold Banquet, combined with the Pincwood Derby, Sunday at the National Guard Armory. This banquet celebrates the anniversary of the scouting movement, and the Pinewood Derby is a yearly event in which the Cub Scouts fashion cars out of pinewood, then race them down an officialcourse.Each den had its tables decorated colorfully and cleverly, and the scouts, with the help of their dads, and fashioned unbelievably designed and intricate cars out of the official block of wood supplied.After the invocation by Reverend K. Bain of the First Church of Christ, Cubmaster Marvin Folsom introduced the guests, committemen, and Den Mothers of Cub Pack 6.The Veteran’s of Foreign Wars, Post 8087, sponsors of Cub Pack 6, use this banquet as an opportuniy to treat the Cub Scouts to a free barbecued chicken dinner, complete with trimmings. The food was greeted and dispatched with obvious delight.In the Pinewood Derby, judges selectedthe three prettiest cars, then races were held within the dens to determine the fastest cars which wouldcompete in thefinalraces. Winners and runner-up of each den received trophies.Den winners then competed among themselves for first and second place in thePacH.Trophies for the prettiest cars, in first, second, and third place order, went to: Gary Booth, Den 2; Ricky Adams, Den 3; and Chuck Kuhlman, Den 8.Den winners for fastest cars, in first and second place order, were: Randy Pickering and Bill MartinofDen 1; David Griswold and Joey Hoh-man of Den 2; Billy Barker and Bobby Bronson of Den 3; Carl Getford and Donny Reynolds of Den 5; Neil Craydon and A1 La Roe of Den 8; and Randy Register and Steve Hohman of Den 8.In the grand play-off race, first prize for the fastest car in the pack went to Randy Register, Den 8. Second prize went to Billy Barker, Den 3.Magnolia ClubThe Magnolia Garden Club will meet Thursday, Feb. 9 at 11:20 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Arthur Boley on Eustis St. Co-hostesses will be Mrs. A. L.
