Modjctka aa “Camille.” I Last evening the Arch Street Theatre, was pcrowded with attentive people who heartily jeDjoyed the performance of Camille. Malame {Modjeska as the queen of coquettes seemed ,fashioned in face and figure for the lovely siren who could fascinate all she met, and to this special personal fitness she added an ideal performance of the part, full of humanity and .yet so delicately limned that the evil miasma j ,floating about was well nigh invisible, 80 }perfect was the artiste in her work that her ,broken English was almost unobserved—the eyes, the mouth, the gestures, the swaying of \the form all betokening the meaning as the ,words were spoken. There was, possibly, a little too muon of the good heart exhibited and .! too little of the vain hilarity that we have been accustomed to encounter in the personations I of other actresses, but otherwise the portrayal i was satisfying even to the most critical. Madame Modjeska bad excellent assistance trom Mr. Maurice Barrymore, Miss Grace Henderson, Mr. E. Hamilton Bell, Ion Robertson, James Cooper, Mrs. W. G. Jones, Clara Ellison and others. This afternoon Modjeskaplays “Rosalind” in As You Like It; to-night The Chouans, Thursday, Twelfth Night; Friday, As You Like It; Saturday matinee, Camille, and in the evening, Twelfth Night. 1
