A house full of first nighterssaw “The Diary of Anne Frank,” the only serious play inthis Abilene Community Theater*season, open its eight-night run Wednesday.The cast is fair to middling, a little to the strong side. It rises to create the tense momentdemanded bv the storv.* ^The ACT production manages to create quite well that feeling in which “Anne Frank comes to represent the whole spirit of Europe driven underground by the Nazi barbarians.Patti Jones of Albany, is a very attractive voung heroine in* v C*the title role. Her inexperience shows through now and then but she gives a winning performance overall.Rob Ford and Venie Palasota were particularly good in the ( role of the Franks’ permanent ,house guests, but everyone has good moments in the show. -The set is very effective and j the director. Bill Gregory, has the show moving smoothly. It could easily be one of the big (successes of the ACT season. rThe play runs Wednesday ( through Saturday this week and next.
