OWNS MOLAR TOOTH OF EXTINCT ELEPHANTKaukauna—A molar tooth, of .an extinct elephant known as “elephas jIpriraigenius” is in the possession of jAndrew Whittaker of this city. Mr. jWhittaker found the tooth, which is ;supposed to be thousands of years ; old, while excavating a ditch at j Quinney 18 years ago. Through the ; assistance of R. H. McCarty, chief! of police here, the tooth was sent to : the National museum at Washington B. C., where it was identified by C. W, Gilmore, curator of vertebrate paleontology at the National museum.Also being informed that a skeleton of such an animal was in the possession, of the Milwaukee museum, it is planned, to offer it to the museum officials.
