“PASSION PLAY” SCENESRepresentation* By “Animated Pic-ture*“ Enjoyed At Music Hall By Cardinal Gibbons, Bishop Paret And Others*The Passion Play, as performed yearly by the peasants o/ Mount Horltz, Bohemia, was vividly reproduced last night at Music Hall by means of moving pictures and stereopticon tableaux. During the reproduction of the play an explanatory lecture was given by Prof. Ernest Lacy, who prefaced his remarks with aa account of the daily life of the peasants, which Is given up once a year to take part In the representation of Bible scenes, which the people look upon us u religious duty.Not a little of the effectiveness of thep ■performance yesterday was due to the alt; -compauyiug music. During the presentation of some of the views an organ ac eompauiment was played by John K. Clemons. The biblical tableaux were accentuated by solos rendered bv MissBlanche Yew ell, who has a rich con tralto voice, and Mr. N. Du Shane Clow-ard, who has a magnificent baritone.Commencing with Old Testament scent'swhich were Interpreted to have a bearing on the coming of Christ, the moving pic-tur»-« of the play gave Illustrations In turn to the angel appearing to Mary, the flight to Egypt, the Holy Family, baptism of Christ, Christ blessing little children, the raising of Lazarus, the entry into Jerusalem. the Last Supper, Christ washing the disciples' feet, Judas receiving the thirty pieces of silver. Christ in the Carden of Olives, Christ before Calaphas, Peter's denial, .Christ before Pilate, Christbefore Herod, scourging and condemnation of Christ, the way of the cross, the crucifixion, taking Christ down from the cress, placing Christ in the sepulchre andthe resurrection.EaeLi scene was complete in detail of costumes and surroundings, and was reproduced with such fidelity that the audience felt themselves to be gazing 011 the actual work of the peasant actors until disillusiou came with the extinguishing X)fthe lights after every tableau.A special performance for clergymen and others was given in the afternoon, at which were present Cardinal Gibbons,about seventy-five priests and a number of Sisters of the Holy Cross. The Cardinal said afterward to Dr. W. W. Freeman, under whose direction the presentation Is given: “It is wonderfully realistic anddeeply religious.” Bishop Paret, .Dr. H. M. Wharton and a number of other clergymen and rabbis attended the presentation last night.
