Then, this past summer, they called me from Nashville and said they had recorded HBill Anderson, he learned, of the The Bill Anderson television show, was contracted to record the song for the MCA label, the largest record label 'in Nashville.Big things began lo happen from then on.The recording moved in the record charts at an astounding pace and right on to the Billboard magazine listings. It leaped from 69 to 37, jumped from 37 to 21, from 21 to 14. from there to seven, seven to three, three to two and two to one in a matter of months.“I asked Bill (Anderson) if he thought it would move any further and he thinks so.** claims Carpenter.
