Oscar WII4c.Many p|ere in ncigbor, ng cities arc prinMng tQ-qdkri portraits of Dscar Wilde. Th* Progress gpesback of Operand present* an accurate likeness of hia uncle’s stepson* Barney C) FJannagan, Esq.There seems to l5 nothing mare remarkable about OscarWilde than intense peculiarity, which his admirers call genius, rod which practical folks regard as humbug withgain in view. Mr, Wilde's singularity is partly due to nature, partly to affectation, and largely to a hope of profit from that weakness in New York human nature which causae people to run after any new and curious thing. Within the kel three years Wilde has been the acknowledged leader of tbit chin of persona iu London Society who profess to find the secret of life in beauty, and who industriously spend tbeir time, or fancy they spend it in the eujoyment of the beautiful where lees gifted mortals tail to find it. A few months ago he published soma verses in book form, nut destituteof merit, but condemned tecanse of their fleshiness by severe critics. In New York he has delivered several lectures, dressed in full dives coat, white vest, black knre breeches, black silk stockings tod low cut shoes with Lnckles ; but he did not carry a sunflower or u lily in hie aristocratic hands. It woo’t do for Oscar to ignore the sunflower when he lectures in Bloomington.
