Yenter Has 79th Birthday Mon./•Monday Jt)h|n Yenter celebrated, his 79th birthday quietly at his home in Oxford, although Christmas day a dinner was served which was a double celebration for Mr. Yenter,- The name of Yenter has been a ( familiar one in Johnson county and dates back to several years before v Iowa was admitted to the Union. Jacob Yenter, father of John, wasborn in Wertemberg, Germany, and a came to America in 1883, later a serving 18 months in the Mexican 1 War, after which receiving a land warrant for land in Oxford town*, ship, he came here and settled in 1849. He was married to Margaret Johnson, a native of Scotland. They went to housekeeping on Mr. Yen-ter's land, residing south of Oxford until 1864.John Yenter was bom December 28, 1857 in a log house south of Oxford that his father had! built shortly after locating here.In 1864 when John was seven years old he with his brothers and ►sisters accompanied his .parents to Virginia City, Nevada. The trip was made overland in a covered wagon. They resided there for nearly three years and then took up their residence iii Rockland!, California, After two years in 'California they returned to Virginia City, Nevada, remaining there for over four years. John’s father passed away August 14, 1872, and shortly thereafter the family returned to Johnson county.In 1892 John Yenter was married ito Miss Lydia Yenter, who passed away in April 1929. To this union four children were born, Mrs. Milo Novak of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Milo Stratton, Mr. Harry Yenter and Miss Alice Yenter of Oxford.Mr. Yenter has two brothers and one sister’ living. They are George Yenter of Oxford, Clarence Yenter of Idaho and Mis Nelle Yenter of West Liberty,Six years ago John turned over the respon sibil itie s of the farm to his son, Harry, and retired to Oxford where he and his daughter, Alice, reside. While he enjoys the best of health he still misses the daily routine of farm life that was his for sor.«hitE•eidmany years.
