The Story of Two Young LadiesEleanor—graduated from High School i n 100 8. The summer vacation went as all vacations do. When fall came Eleanor was up and doing. After much thought and debate between clerking and office work, she decided on clerking in favor of getting a position on account of the expense training for office work. She started clerking at $7 per week; January 1st, 1000, she was raised to $10 a week, i In the fall of 1009, however, she decided that clerking did not pay and entered training for office work. She had been unable to save anything on clerking wages and it took t he extra pay of her first year’s work in the office to pay for the training. For her record year of office work she received $14 a week, at which salary she worked until 1917, when she was raised to $18 a week. Eleanor has worked 10 years and through persistent saving has been able to make her living and save nearly a $100.Margaretgraduated from High School in 1908 with Eleanor. After the summer vacation her mind turned to things more serious. With much consideration she decided to become a clerk. After clerking two weeks a friend asked why she didn’t learn a trade which would guarantee a good position, better wages and steady employment. 11 took Margaret two months to learn to become a cigar maker, but instead of paying for this training she was paid for her work. After the first two months Margaret was able to make from $10 to $15 a week. It was not long until she became skilled and was making from $15 to $18 a week, and in 1917 she was earning from $18 to $20 a week. In 1918 salaries were again hiked and Margaret has been getting from $25 to $30 a week.Eleanor and Margaret were together the other day and wrere discussing the past. They figured up what they had made since graduating from High School, and found that Margaret had made more than twice what Eleanor had. Besides, Margaret had a trade which guaranteed a position at any time that she might be thrown upon her own resources.11Really it’s worth your investigation—If y ou are going to hold a position get the most out of it.
