Griffin Leads Fenger to 14-0 Victory Over Waco, TexasDon Griffin, Chicago’s outstanding prep football player of the 1938 season, led the Fenger football team, city champions, to a 14-to-0 victory over the Waco, Texas, high school team, Monday, December 26.The 16-year-old junior quarterback scored both touchdowns for Fenger on short plunges in the first and fhu’d periods.Fenger’s first score came late in the opening period, when Waco tried a quick kick, which was low, and Fenger took the ball on its 43-yard line. After a -steady advance, in which Giiffin did most of the ground gaining, and once threw a ten-yard pass to Dudzik, Griffin went over flom the two-yard line.In the third period, Fenger recovered a Waco fumble on the Waco 35-yard line. Griffin rvm«t of *heWaco team with him to the 2-yard line, but Fenger was penalized 15 yards for holding, putting it back on the 23-yard line Griffin gained eleven yaids, then skirted left end for five more. After plunging to the three-yard line he was stopped on the following play, but went over on the next pi ay for a touchdown. Dudzik’s kicks for the extra points were good after both touchdowns.Immediately after the game Coach Chuck Palmer, together with Don Giiffin, Jim Westwater and Dick Dudzik, left for Los Angeles, California, where they joined the Chicago prep all-stars, who will meet a picked team composed of stars from the vicinity around Los Angeles, tomorrow night at Municipal stadium.
