THIRTEEN HUNDREDRATS KILLEDRemarkable Results of Bankston F. R. A.’s War onRodents.The members of Bankston I/algeNo. 78, F. R. A., at their meetingon Dec. 7, divided into two companiesof 15 each for the purpose of startinga war of extermination against thedestructive rat tribe. The companieswere under the leadership of Thus.Pankey and Herman Empson, respectively, the prize for killing the greatest number of rats being an oystersupper to be given the winning sideby the side that killed the least number. The* tails were saved as evidence.The contest closed Dec. 21, and ourenterprising Brushy correspondenttelephoned The Register that 1330 ratswere killed. We can imagine therustling that must have taken placewhen the hunt began. As it progressed and the tails of the slainrodents piled up, each side redoubled their efforts and became more thanever determined to enjoy that treat at the expense of their opjwnents.When the meeting of the 21st assembled rat tails were greatly in evidence. There were boxes andbuckets full of them, and when the tail counters had finished their arduouslabors it was found that the number reached the astonishing total of 1330 as stated.The winning side was the one ledby Mr. Empson, and the oyster supperis scheduled to take place at Bankston next Thursday night, Jan. 4.All who took part in the chase hadlots of fun, and they have the satisfaction of knowing that the rats killedrepresent several thousand bushels off grain saved; and the oyster supper is ' yet to come. It is safe to say thatrats will be scarce in that partBrushy for some time.
