CELEBRATION AT THE ART CLUBROOMS LAST NIGHT.An Affair Characteristic of a Joyous Occasion—Men of Letters Revelin Frivolity. The Yuletide was celebrated by the Art Club last night in a manner which those who are not members of the local Bohemia could not enter into the enjoyment of. The invitations wrere limited to those who are members of the professions which constitute the liberal arts. There was a Christmas tree and everybody got a present, handed to him by Herr Fetweiss, who acted as Santa Claus and played his part lo a nicety. ®The giving of the presents was productive of the greatest mirth on account of the utter incongruity with which they -were distributed. It is needless to say that there were refreshments with which to induce the spirit of song and poetry to burst forth, and it did burst forth most effectually. After the distribution of the pVesents a sort of impromptu entertainment was held. John Rettig, as master of ceremonies, an-*2; is*, . r. fcjga x V.. - ■a-'*- * ” w’• . E »•lt; ‘rfw -inounced that there would be a recitation by Melzeiner, accompanied by slow music. Mr. Melzeiner’s rendition of a parody onPoe's “Raven” will long be remembered as one of the enjoyable things that have occurred at the Art Club. It was followed by a serious recitation by Henry Barnhorn. In response to the calls of the audience, Duveneck consented to give his famous imitation of a German woman in pain, and it is hardly necessary to say that it made the hit of the evening.KEPT THE ORGAN BUSY.Ah organ had been kindly furnished by the Rudolph Wurlitzer Company, and about this the band of, Bohemians gathered and sang songs until the unique decorations on the walls trembled. They were stopped only by the fact that Farny and Duveneck, the leading spirits in the riotousness had to go over to Theodore Hallam’s country to be on hand in the morning and assist in preparing an autobiography, In several languages, of one Dr. James Wise, who told a certain risque story. The principal partof the autobiography is about this story. One of the interesting features of last night’s ceremonies was the auction sale of a number of pieces of Rookwood pottery, which had been furnished by Mr. W. W. Taylor, of the pottery. These and a number of smoked plates brought a. sum of money, which will be ofmaterial aid in bringing the club out of the trouble which the failure of the Commercial Bank got it into. ________
