Monster Story GainsThe Monster story gained considerable national attention, also.On Sept, 12, at Flatwoods. a woman and six boys were badly frightened by what they reported to be a man-like shape 10 feet tali, red faced and foul-smelling.This was on a night during which strange lights and object*? in the sky were reported over many parts of the eastern United States.What the people saw' has not been pinned down—but there is no doubt that they were panic-stricken. by the appearance.There were other big stories in West Virginia in 1952: Huntington's rash oi fires was important in itself; the multi-million dollar blaze ;it Clarksburg was big news; the presidential appearance in the stale were closely followed, as were the visits of other candidates; the Eisenhower -Nixon meeting at Wheeling gained national note.Ail lists of top stories are arbitrary and subject to criticism, but there is certainly no doubt about this statement—1952 has been a mighty busy year for newsmen.
