Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Pomeroy, for Alfred Elberfeld, well-known Pomeroy merchant, who died unexpectedly Monday morning at his home. He was a brother of Earl H. Elberfeld of Logan.The Rev. William Middleswarth officiated at the services and burial was in Beech Grove Cemetery, Pomeroy.He was a son of the late Jacob and Katherine Mees Elberfeld. His father founded Elberfeld’s Department Store, which now has branches in Pomeroy. Logan and Chillicothe. Alfred was associated with the Pomeroy store.A veteran of World War I, he was a member of the Drew Webster American Legion Post, and St. Paul Lutheran Church. He was director of the Meigs Museum and served on the board of directors for the Pomeroy National Bank.Also surviving are a son Richard B. of Hamilton; two daughters, Mrs. Frank Rovere of Porto la Valley, Calif., and Mrs. George Morris of Pomeroy; 10 grandchildren; six greatgrandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. Allen Keller of Darien, Conn., Mrs. Robert Slagel of Ironton, Mrs. Emerson Siddall of Marietta, Mrs. Robert Lytle of Chillicothe and Mrs. William Downie of Pdmeroy; three other brothers, Jacob B. of Westerville, Martin of Chillicothe and Robert of Pomeroy and several nieces and nephews.
