NOTICE.WAS committed to jail in Edgar county, State of Illinois, on the 3d day ot'December, 1839, two Negroes, supposed to be runaways, the one a man, ruther of a light complexion, about 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, somewhat spare made, rather dish faced, projected mouth and thick lips, lias lost one of his lore teeth, his shins considerably scarred, supposed to tie about 3 J years of age and calls his name Henry IWownlow, i The other is a woman, supjxwd to be about tlie same age, and of nearly tiie same complexion, the is about the common height of wo-j men, or perhaps a little under, tolerably full fleshed, but not corpulent,, no scars or marks perceivable. She calls her name Margaret Brownlow,| formerly Margaret Hall, and they claim to be husband and wife. They ! are tolerably well clad, and the man wears a fur cap. They say they i were born free. They had papers purporting to he certificates of their , freedom, issued by J. Grant as clerk of Buckingham comity, Virginia, (where he says he was horn and partly raised, and North Carolina,; and • signed by a Mr. Jones as a magistrate of the same county. The papers : have no county seals, and in other respects are thought to be quite defective and not genuine. They had two horses, saddles and bridles in their possession. One of the saddles appears to have been manufactured in | Wheeling, Va.
