NBC Is putting Andy Williams* Christmas show “on ice.” And Andy has the perfect guest star for such a format. She’s 18 - year - old Women’s World Figure Skating Champion Peggy Ann Fleming, who will appear on “The Andy WilliamsShow” colorcast Christmas Night, Sunday. Dec. 25 over the NBC Television Network (10-11 p.m. NYT).“When Peggy comes out on the ice,” said Andy, “The whole studio becomes silent, almost in awe—the hush brought on when a champion performs.”NBC froze Andy’s Stage Four in Burbank, leaving a small non-skid area for the other acts that appear. On the temporary rink, Peggy skims, leaps, twists, bends and spins around in a spectacular athletic display of grace and strength. She executes such tricks as a flying camel, an axle, a lay-back spin and a double loop. These already difficult stunts were further complicated by the studio spotlight whichfollowed her every move, as the show was being taped.A professional skater scouting Peggy from the audience said, “She is skating under very difficult conditions. Most ama-ture skaters are used to performing with general light. A skater unaccustomed to a spot can lose her balance during fast corkscrew spins.”Said Peggy, “The TV lights bothered me at first, but it did not take too long to adjust.” Andy suggested she accustom herself to TV lights and join the business upon her retirement from competition, but Peggy insisted that it was too earlyto decide on a profession.Currently, the pretty miss attends Colorado College, Colorado Springs, where she majors in elementary education. She studies about three hours a day, between workouts. Peggy says that an Olympic Gold Medal in France in 1968 is her present goal. Even during show rehearsals Peggy Ann left to concentrate on the January national crown. The Osmond Brothers will also take to the skates en masse for some intricate routines as will 24 other supporting amateur skaters.Show guests include Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy; juggler Gil Dova; magician Channing Pollock, and Julian and his dogs.
