His Dallas address is 413 Wood street.George Washington Lee or Leigh, has had a remarkable career. He has traveled all over Europe, Australia, and America, and if reports be true has relied constantly on his wits for a living. He turned up at Prescott, Arizona, last fall and represented himself as the agent of a London syndicate. He proposed to buy the “Little Jessie” mine for $600,000.His supreme nerve worked magic with the towns people and every manthere became his friend. Hetook the mine on trial for a few months and sunk aoout $1500 therein. Things did not pan out as Lee had expected. He could not raise funds. His creditors were clamorous and eome of the workmen threatened to t low him up with dynamite. One night he skip-ed out and came to El Paso, where he hoodwinked the citizens’ committee.Mr. Maggi met Lee at Prescott and afterwards employed him on a salaryas his agent. He khew nothing aboutLee’s conduct here. Lee left El Paso without telling Mr. Maggi of his intentions or bidding him farewell.Lee swindled the public by advertising that he wanted agents at a $35 weekly salary and proposed to mailthem samples, etc., for 35c. It is said, that he reaped a ricn harvest in this manner and many letters to bis address are now at the post office unclaimed.Lee also established a collecting agency, was a life insurance agent ard an egg dealer. He proposed to sell Kansas City eggs in El Paso at a lower price than they can be bought in Kansas City. He said a Kansas City firm owed him and agreed to pay the debt in eggs. Some time ago the Herald wired its Prescott, Arizona, correspondent for something concerning Lee’s connection with the Little Jessie mine. The following dispatch was received in reply:“Prescott, Ariz„Dec. 4. Special tothe Herald—Lee operated on jawbone the Little Jessie mine near here and bilked every one out of every cent, leaving every claim unsettled. A warrant was 9worn out for Lee for obtaining goods under false pretenses, but he had jumped the country and Governor Murphy refused to issue extradition papers. He is rated as a first classbilk.*’
