“Babes In Toyland” is a film whichall children over two years old ought to see. This MetrO'Goldwyn'Mayerpicture at the Astor Theatre on Broad'way is an education in itself.#Laurel and Hardy, favorite corned' ians with all children and most grown' ups are the stars—Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee—of “Babes In Toyland,”and are supported in the picturization of a delightful story involving all the characters of nursery rhymes. The settings for the picture were the largest and most lavish of their type ever constructed in Hollywood'. The famous shoe which housed the old woman with so many children she didn’t know what to do is the main set of the story. For it is around the mortgage on the shoe that the plot is woven.Laurel and Hardy are kept too busy in “Babes In Toyland” to grow annoy' ing with gag repetition. They are the match'makers, heroes and avengers of Toyland, and have never been fun' nier. Indeed, more than half the un' accompanied adults viewing the picture are business men who deserted their desks for a couple of hours of hearty guffaws.I think that most children appre' ciate the dignity of being taken to aBroadway theatre occasionally.is your chance to take them to some'thing they can’t help but enjoy.•Alice Alworth.
