HAPPY SPIRITRULES PROGRAMSincerity of Performers Marks FERA Project EntertainmentThe spirit of Christmas held sway at the Weber college auditorium on Monday night when entertainersconnected with the FERA music and arts project presented a variety show, a cantata and a climaxing pageant before a fairly large audience. There ws no doubt that the entertainers enjoyed presenting the program and the warm applause from the audience was indicative of the apreclation with which the listeners received the sincere efforts of those upon the stage.OPENING NUMBERSThere were vocal and instrumental solos, selections by instrumental ensembles, and tap dancing in the first part. Among those who took part were Jack TwitcheH, Ern Twitchell, Milt Austin, Otto Olt-manns, Vern Hawks, John Creamer, Arlene Blakeman, James Sherman, Joe Blacker, Joe Eddy, Earl Eddy, t*awrcnce Christensen and Clair Lewis.Mr. Lewis was conductor of the Christmas cantata, Arlene Blakeman the accompanist and E, S, Hinklin the reader. Soloists were Vern Hawks, Ruth Berlin, Leah Nelson Thackcry, Nellie Lawson, Sadie Volt, James Sherman, John Creamer and C. C. Fingerle. Members of the chorus were Jack Twitchell, Robert Twitchell, Ehi Twitchell, Tony Aaron, Edna C. Riric, M. Christensen and Milt Austin.INITIALS USED ,This cantata, containing many splendid melodies and effective four part choruses, was performed in a manner reflecting the sincerity ef the singers and the hours spent in preparation. Effective costuming added to the interest.A high spot of the entire performance was Mrs. Rlrle's beautiful singing of Silent Night. with Ja-k Twitchell and James Sherman assisting the accompaniment.The performance closed with v pageant depleting President Roos evelt as the Santa Claus passing ou: gifts in the form of packages designated by the famous initials that aave been a feature of the new deal. Pcery mads ahappy speech of greetings. Commissioner Fred E. Williams attended as another representative of Ogden City. The Weber county commission was represented by Commissioner Charles A. Halverson and Commissioner George Stratford.entertainers will take part In Christmas caroling between now and Christmas.Mayor Peery today sent the following congratulatory note to Mrs. Ririe:MMay I congratulate you on the splendid cantata and pageant given by Ogden and Weber county artists at Weber college last evening, -1 was more than pleased with the beauty of your entertainment,' I heartily endorse the music andarts project and believe that this community would be greatly benefited in a cultural way, to soy nothing of the monetary benefit to the musicians themselves, if this project would be continued permanently.Weber county deserves high praise for being the first in the western states to pioneer an attempt to give its musicians and other artists who have suffered during the depression, a project to assist them to obtain work in their chosen field.I sincerely thank you for an enjoyable evening, and hope you may be given an opportunity to continue your good work.
