Ipractically every work of fiction ! published and every stage play ' produced carries on its flyleaf or ; in its program a disclaimer of | reference, which is a legally re- ; | qtiircd statement that the charao j jers arc fictitious and that any I identification with persons living j or dead is purely coincidental.I The Happiest Millionaire,” the ! comedy hit now at the Curran • Theatre for four weeks, is unique in that it has two statements on this subject. One is the usual dis-Haimer. The other quite the con-' trary. This is necessary because nine of the characters in “The Happiest Millionaire” are patterned after real people who may very well be ivfognizod by old friends and relatives, and even by themselves. Four of them are still alive and j they have given gleeful permission , for their names to be used on stage for characters supposed to be themselves in their youth. They arc Cordelia Droxcl Biddle, whose story, “My Philadelphia Father -.uggested the play; her brother 1 Anthony Droxcl Biddle, formerly •ambassador to Poland; another , brother Brigadier General Living-. ston Biddle now importantly in-1 volved in Pennsylvania state affairs. The fourth is John Lawless, who was butler and sparring companion for their father. Seeing the ,. play was a nostalgic feast for them, for the period of the play is ’ 1915-191(5 when they were all so | much younger. \ jThe five persons now deceased., who are brought importantly in'o the comedy with affectionate un-[ dcrstanding of their faults and virtues, include, of course, Anthony , .1. Droxcl Biddle, the happiest mil-j iionaii e of the title, who will be acted by star Walter Pidgeon.1 Supporting Walter Pidgeon are , such featured players as George \ Grizzard, who appeared in “The c Happiest Millionaire” on Broad-. way; Margot Stevenson, who has l a long record of Broadway hits,to Jher credit; Gave Jordan, also aI 'veteran of last season; and others.I' Evening performances are atII 8:30 except Sunday, with matinees -j on Wednesday and Saturday at1!:30. There will be but one performance New Year eve starting at 8:30.
