fAAuppets' Put In Museum.:1SAN: DIEGO — A “cut- group of new Muppets in- top-grossing motion pie-sjr Christmas gift here this season will be a visit by Jenson’s internation-aliyfamed Muppets in the forfn of an exclusive holiday' exhibition titled “The AH of the Muppets” at the Shn Diego Museum of Art ih Balboa Park. It is on view now through Jan. 13. I'The exhibit is an extensile display detailing theart pf conceiving, buildingf performing Muppets. It also trace the history of ■Muppets, from their creation by Henson more wmW years ago for “Sam aftd |£lends,” a local television show in Washington, Dl|C., to their present worldwide exposure on “The Muppet Show” and ‘Stone Street.” ^Separate segments show tit* actual Muppets created for these shows, as well as flt;fr “NBC Saturday Night” and the Muppet Christmas special. “Emmet Otter’s Jjig-Band Christmas,” to be aired over Home Box Cjffiee.Also included is a specialspired by medieval artists and sculptors. These Muppets were created for the Christmas Nativity Scene in the recent ABC-TV special, “John Denver and the Muppets, A Christmas Together.”The San Diego presentation also features a “touch wall,” a collage of actual materials used in the building of Muppets. A Muppetperformers photo mural has life-sized depictions of Muppet performers Frank Oz, Jerry Nelson, Richard Hunt, Dave Goelz and Jim Henson working their puppet characters. Original Muppet dye transfer color photos by Nancy Moran and Doha! Holwa.v, the basis of for many of the popular Muppet posters, also are shown. Audio/visual effects and special lighting will highlight exhibit features,Henson's Muppets have by now become international favorites, with their new “The Muppet Movie” one of 1979’s best-reviewed andtures and their own Emmy-winning “The Muppet Show” being viewed by more than a quarter of a billion adults and childrenin 107 countries.Stephen Brezzo, acting director of the San Diego Museum of Art, says he expects the exhibition to be the most popular the museum has housed, with an anticipated audience of between 85,000 and 100,000. “This unique art form has caught the imagination of young and old, he says. “We hope that this special holiday presentation of the Muppets will increase community involvement in the Museum.”No admission is charged to view the exhibition, although adults will be charged the regular museum admission fee of $1 (Tuesdays are free). The fee for children 16 and under is 50 cents and children accompanied by adults will be admitted free, Students under 21 with a valid ID card will be charged 50 cents.
