Pima-Navajo area'Snow Scene' abounds in Yule musicBy JAN BAGNATO Phone 947-3832 An instrumental music holiday program was staged recently at Navajo. The combined -Navajo Kiva band, under the direction of Gilbert Ruiz, presented “Snow Scene ‘74.” Songs included the traditional Christmas music such as “Silent Night,” “The Coventry Carol,” “Joy to the World” and others. The band also played songs for Chanukah and two Hebrew folk songs — “Al Hanisim” and “S’ Vinon.”At Pima, Mrs. Mary Ellen Zoellner’s first grade has completed a unit on nutrition. The children studied the basics of good health as it relates to what they eat. The children visited Kiva kitchen to see their lunch prepared and toured Earl’s market to see how food is processed. The children were treated to cookies and milk. The class made butter and enjoyedbuttered crackers and buttermilk. For Christmas the children will make their parents a nutritous treat in place of the usual gift.The seventh- and eighth-grade choral groups at Pima are preparing a special Christmas program. Following the theme of “A Charlie *ferown Christmas,” the group will present the program to all kindergarden classes on Wednesday.The first grading period has ended, and the Navajo Academic Honor Roll has been released.
