60 musicians attend first band rehearsalSixty local musicians, 15 more than expected, showed up for the first rehearsal of the Richardson Community Band recently, and the mixture of professions was typical for Richardson, if not for a band.Ministers, physicians, physicists, housewives, college professors, engineers, architects and an attorney, all came to take part in the formation of a community musical organization. Joe Frank, music coordinator for the Richardson Independent School District, is the director of the group.Frank said that he hopes the band will provide an outlet for the energies and talents of the people involved as well as musically serving the Richardson area. The band will playmarches, old standards, and serious works at park concerts next spring, and at communitygatherings. The next rehearsal will be held at 8 p.m. next Wednesday in the J. J. Pearce High School band hall. It will be the last of the year, and rehearsals willresume in January.Anyone who is interested in joining may call Frank at 235-0135. Several people would like to play in the band but have no instruments, and FYank has asked that anyone who has an unused instrument in the house and is willing to loan it, get in touch with him.OPEN DAIL
