A dollfor hristmasSubmitted by Marie DoeringWhen I was a little girl growing up in my Volga-German home of Warenbung in Russia, I always wanted a doll for Christmas. But the Communists came andthey not only took Christmas away, they took everything we had, trying to starve us Germans to death. Most of my family survived - we lost my little sister Erika - and in 1934 we moved to a Mennonite village in southern Ukraine where tilings were better. But there was still no Christmas under theCommunists.I finally did get my doll for Christmas though, two years ago, when I was 78 years old, from my home-care worker Gail Mohr.
