fARBLEHEAD.Abbot Hall Dedication—Newsy Nolen AboutTown.Abbot Hall, the new and beautiful memorial ball on tbe Common, is to be dedicated on Wednesday next. Tbe order of exercises is as follows: Building Committee placing tbe keys in tbe hands of tbe Selectmen; oration by the Hon. Edward Avery of Boston; singing by tbe Musical Association; prayer by tbe Rev. George Fierce of Milford, N. II.; ode written by Miss Marcia M. Selman; music by the American Band of Providence; benediction by tbe Rev. Edward Crowninsliield of West Dedham. There will be an entertainment in tbe evening by tbe band, '/he afternoon exercises willbegin at 1.30 o’clock. The people of the town are exceedingly pleased with the building and with every appointment, except the clock in the lower, which has caused a good deal of talk, as its face is not plain. The following gifts for the hail have been received by the Building Committee: An elegant Brussels carpet, valued at $200. tor the stage and stairs leading thereto, by Joel Goldthwaite, Ksq.,|of Boston. A black walnut bookcase, valued at #50, for tbe Town Clerk’s office, by W. L. Joy. Esq., of the tirm of F. M. Holmes Co., 180 Hanover street, Boston. Nathaniel Brimbleeom, Esq.. of Faneuil Hall Market, Boston, a native of Marblehead, has also presented through John Conway, Esq., one of Howard Co.’s best quality marble clocks for the hall. A line piano from Henry F. Pitman. The opening entertainment in Abbot Hall is to be given by the 1 orcas Society, which made application for the hall when the building was proposed. Itw ill take place on Friday evening, December 18,and will he a presentation of one or two comedies and a musical entertainment added.ABBOT HALL DELIVERED OVER TO THESELECTMEN.[Special Despatch to The Boston Globe. 1 M A BULKHEAD, December 8.—Abbot Hall was lighted up for the first time this eveulng. The Building Committee turned the hall over to the Selectmen as its fut ure custodians. The Selectmen then held a meeting and chose ushers for thedlt; dication exercises, and also took measures for the appointment of special police lor that day.BREVITIES.There are now thirty-six new buildings on the •‘burnt district,’*For the janitorship ot Abbot Hall there have been eighteen applications.
