SBI Work Described To Pembroke KiwanisPEMBROKE — Lee Edward Sampson of the S.B.I. was the guest speaker at the Tuesday evening meeting of Pembroke Kiwanis. In his introduction, Program Chairman Theodore Maynor gave a brief resume of Sampson’s training and qualifications for his work with the S.B.I.Sampson is a graduate of Southeastern Community College and of Shaw University. He received specializedtraining and graduated from the S.B.I. Academy. He worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation for one year and then began his work with the S.B.I. He is presently assigned to the S.B.I. Mobile Laboratory which works out of Fayetteville.The S.B.I. was established in 1937 with headquarters located in Raleigh with the State Attorney General’s Office. The Mobile Unit to which Sampson is presently assigned has facilities for dealing with arson, drugs, and many other aspects of police work, such as fingerprinting, study of physical evidence m connection with crimes. The S.B.I. cannot work on cases unless requested to do so by local policedepartments. The S.B.I. employs over 300 people, with 150 field agents.Following Sampson’s remarks, Club President James A. Sampson announced the date of the annual Christmas Program Tuesday, December 20. This will be a Ladies Night and Senior Citizens Night.Club members were reminded of the Kiwanis Pancake Supper this Friday, December 9 from 5 p.m, to 9 p.m. and on Saturday, December 10th from 6:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. It will be held at the Pembroke Elementary School with all you can eat for $2 perperson.In addition to newspaper publicity, posters are being placed in businesses; and radio stations in this area will assist with spot announcements. Everyone is urged to support this supper, the proceeds from which will support the local Youth Programs which are sponsored by Pembroke Kiwanis Club.Visitors at the meeting were Sgt. Harold Hunt of the Pembroke Police Department and Bahnson Barnes of Lumberton Kiwanis Club.
