SchneiderOrganization of the Memorial concert band was announced in the Times Recorder on June 14, 1923:“A Drone and Hoge Memoral Concert band has been organized in this city lor the purpose of giving a higher standard of music at the outdoor concerts as provided for by the wills of the late Eaton Drone and John Hoge.“The band is composed of 40 of Zanesville’s most skilled musicians, selected from the musicians union. The new band will be under the leadership of Paul Kem, who has proved his ability to interpret standard selections as veil as popular numbers by his work with the Grotto band, which took second place in the national contest held Wednesday in Cleveland.4‘The concerts will be given under the direction of the park board and it is the intention to give them all summer. The concerts v ill be held each Thursday evening in Mcln-t’re park on each Sunday afternoon in Putnam Hill park. , .“The park board believes that the peopleViii approve increasing the band from 30 to 40 men and the selection of each man for h.s ability as a performer on his particularinstrument. . „ . .,4The band will be known as the Memorial •on^rt band and will play all concerts as prodded'for by tb* Drone and Hoge concert♦it •»4 «
