Gougar and Ottier*.The business session of the Wen ah’s Suffrage Convention of the Third Congressional District, was opened[at the W. C. T. U. Missi on Hall on Monday afternoon, and the house was filled by these whom interest in the ciiisa or curiosity to hear what is said called out. Mrs. J. G. Harrison presided aud introduced Mrs Helen V. Gougar, of Lafeyette, President of the Indiana Association. Mis G ugar aiitlr**b'-ed the audience in explanation . f the movement in favor of Wom*u Suffrage and in relation to its strength iu Indiana, which, she stated,was growing daily beyond wbat its most ardent friends had anticipated. She aaid, as at the Opera House Sunday, that the present movement was in favor of the ballot for women in muniei-pal elections, and that the next legislature of the state would be petitioned to grant this.it having the legal right to do so without an amendment to the state constitution. The method of organization of local and district associations in the inter-* est of the movement was explained.Kev. T. H. Willis was called upon and spoke very earnestly in favor of the movement. Several other petBons also spoke iu its favor.At night a pablic meeting was held at the 8econd Presbyterian church, the house being bo filled that many had to stand inthe aisles. Rev. J. W. Clokey opened the meeting with an elcquent address of wels come to the delegates to the convention, in which he very emphatically endorsed the movement for woman suffrage.Miss Susan B. Anthony followed Mr. Clokey. She stated that for over forty years she had been engaged in the advocacy of woman suffrage and that she was greatly encouraged in the work at present by the evidences she saw on all sides of the increased interest of the people in the cause and its rapidly growing popularity among all classes of citizens. She then explained the principles upon which this movement is based, the nature of the organization in Indiana and other states, and strongly and eloquently appealed to her hearers to give their influence in favor of the cause. The address of Miss Anthony was received with much favor by her audience.The convention resumed its business cession at the W. C. T. U. Mission at 2 o’clock this afternoon, and a loral association will be organized for Ftoyd county and officers elected The convention will close to night with another public meeting at the Second Presbyterian church aud ao address by Mrs. Helen M.
