THE KIRMESS TONIGHT.A Unique Entertainment For TinBenefit Of The Public Library.Tonight toe people of El Paso wilhave the privilege of attending one othe most interesting entertainmentsthahave ever been given here. It is quit unique, and it is safe to say that no n who goes will be disappointed. Thi entertainment is called a “kirmess.’ It will consist of the prettiest of fane; dances and attractive music. But tht dances will not follow one another ir monotonous succession: ©u the con trary they will serve partly to emhellish and illustrate the 5 beautifu dramatic poem of Longfellow, “Tht Blind Girl of Castel-Cuille. It is t touching little tragedy. It will be reac by Miss Lucy Kneeland, who in beeom ing a favorite with those who attenc amateur dramatic performances in thi: city.The dramatic poem will take the first place on the pr *_ n. Thestorjruns as follows: Baptiste had worMargaret, the beautiful daughter of a veteran. Shortly before the wedding the young girl’s sight was taken away,and at the command of Baptiste’s father the lovers were separated. Baptiste left home, returned, loved Angela, and prepared to marry her, while thinking still of Margaret. It is the day before the wedding. Margaret hears of Baptiste's arrival, and Paul, her littlebrother, thoughtlessly tells her of hisapproaching marriage. Jane, the oldfortune teller, has warned Baptiste and Angela, and has tried to guide Margaret aright. It is the wedding morning. Margaret, her heart broken, hereyes sightless, goes to the church with Paul so as to be there before the wedding party arrives. She bices and listens. She hears one word from Baptiste, recognizes the voice, steps suddenly from the confessional, confronts her lover, places the point of a knife to her breast, and with the words, “Since thou hast wished my death, as holy water be my blood to thee.” she falls lifeless at his feet.The part of Margaret will be taken by Miss Lucy Kneeland; Angela by Miss Ethel Catlin: Jane, Gertrude Windsor; Baptiste, Winston De Voe; Paul, William Marr.The first scene is upon the village green. There is a pretty peasantdance accompanied by a song from“Faust” bv a double quartet. The peasants will be Misses Eva Kneeland, Tillie Cohen, Josie Marr, Alice Maple, Ollie Lockart, Clara Munday, Nellie Munday; Messrs. Wm. Marr, Malcolm McLacblen. Frank Hughes, Lewis Al vis. Herbert Bishop, Ernest Hughes, Tom Davis, and Eddie Berrien.The double quartet will be made up of Mrs. W. D. Howe, Mrs. E. E. Baker, Mrs. J . F. Williams Miss Estelle Jones; Messrs. Parker. Beach, Baker,and Slater.Miss Ethel Catlin will then give a fancy dance, and Mrs. E. E Baker, the popular soprano, will sing “Her First Waltz.”A Spanish gypsy dance by Nettie Irwin. Carmelita Aiosa, and Gertrude Wiggins will here be introduced, followed by a song from “Carmen” by Mrs. W. D Howe, and a chorus from “Erminie.”Scene two will be at Margaret’s hut. Scene three, again upon the village green, will afford opportunity for theintroduction of the beautiful “dance of the roses,” to be given by Eileen Walz, Lillian Crawford, Margaret Allen,Agyra White, Gertrude Wiggins, Carmelita Ainsa, Laura Sorenson, Vivian JBrunner, and Adiene Noake.The solo dance will be given by Miss Gertrude Wiggins. Then there will be a wedding procession of peasants and a grand finale.
