Move Has $500 Alreody ContributedPreliminary Work Done for MuseumPreliminary work on the establishment of a museum for .Val Verde County and Del Rio is being done by a committee authorized by county and city officials.The Commissioners Court of Val Verde County adopted a resolution giving the group authority to launch preliminary work and the City Commission granted similar authority on the petition of Mrs. Gordon Walton, Mrs. Della Whitehead and Mrs. John M. Jones Jr. .• The committee. Including Mrs. Walton, Mrs. Whitehead, Mrs. Jones, with Mrs. Ima Jo Fleetwood, Mrs. F. H. Whitehead and Miss Josephine Jones, Is exploring various aspects of establishment of the museum.- Interest in the museum, ' which has been a topic of discussion for several yean, was given impetus by the reception of the Diamond Jubilee Museum on South Main Street I during the celebration In October.Visitors, calling to see the historical items loaned for display, signed a special register which will I be a cornerstone for family histor-i j les of early day settlers.; The visitors repeatedly expressed t . the hope that a display of historical Items could become per manent, and Walton Brothers, which includes Mr. and Mrs. Frank Walton and Mr.'and Mrs. Gordon Walton, contributed $500 toward a fund for establishment of the museum.Mrs. John M. Jones Jr. has received material on preliminary steps to be taken for establishment of a. museum and allied material, which hi being studied by the committee. Mrs. Fleetwood collected material on museum procedures and methods In Washington, D.C., Phll-mdelphla and1 New IfortrwhiU on vacation kt the Fast in the latter part of October.We feel that it is most important to gather these, historical items while they are still available, Mrs. Della Whitehead said. If we don’t get a proper place for them, they’ll be lost or scattered. Many of the families who loaned us articles for display during the Diamond Jubilee have expressed their willingness to let us have these things as ‘permanent loans' at such time a a we are able to house them properly and see that they are cared for.We already have $500 toward the museum and I feel sure that others will show similar interest and make contributions. Anyone interested in the museum fund or in its establishment may call me or any member of the committee, she said.
