If you haven’tgot your winter woollies out yet (what are you made of?) you'd better stop that wishful thinking and get them ready to wear so you don’t miss anything when the CPR Holiday Train comes through Whitemouth this coming Wednesday, Dec. 5. It will stop on Railway Avenue opposite the Whitemouth Hotel.Plan to be there bv at least 6:30 p.m. to have some hot chocolate and drop off your donation of food or funds before the Train arrives at 6:45 p.m. This year's line-up promises another great concert with Doc Walker, Miss Emily and The Brothers Dube with The Odds.Doc Walker had two nominations for the 2012 CCMA Awards - one for Album of the Year and one for Group of the Year.Gene Simmons of KISS has been quoted as saying that “Miss Emily has the best pipes we have ever heard in an unsigned artist.’' and The Brothers Dube are an upcoming talented young group who have already raised over $100,000 for Haiti Relief, breast cancer research and children's organizations.Even Scrooge would get excited if he was to hear theHoliday Train’s whistle and see all those lights. Come out. give the gift of giving and enjoy the evening.The Whitemouth and District Lions Club have organized this exciting event in Whitemouth for the past 10 years and now again this year. This dedicated group of 16 members will be celebrating their 30th anniversary in 2013. They are a part of Lions International and their motto is “We Serve,” and serve they do.With the help and support of several non-member volunteers, they have developed the Lions Park in Whitemouth on Hwy 44 making it a pleasant place to stop and rest. There’s lots of camping space with shower facilities and they host the annual Lions picnic there.They have contributed to the Whitemouth Fire Department’s first rescue van and jaws of life, purchased an automated external defibrillator for the community hall and they help people in need in a variety of ways.They have always contributed to the Whitemouth Christmas Hamper program, and this year they have been asked to take over the organization, collection, assembly and delivery of the Christmas Hampers in our area.Their major fund raisers are the community calendar and the “Trash for Cash” refuse/recycling pick-up program. In ty pical disregard for their own considerable efforts, they attribute their success to community support.I must remind you that there won’t be any bingo in Whitemouth Dec. 5 because we’re planning to be stomping our feet and clapping our hands to some great music; hootin’ and hollerin’ over on Railway Avenue. What a great place to live!Talking about a great place to live, Canada is exactly that. I recently had the amazing experience of driving a circuitous route around most of the eastern provinces. Like me, you've probably heard of the fall colours in the Maritimes and perhaps you’ve seen them too.I thought that might be just a little more hype than it’s worth because we get beautiful fall colours here too but somehow the colours there are so brilliant, they almost look Like. Like c’mon. how can you mix red and yellow, orange and bronze and green - sometimes all on one tree? In fact, one evening when the sun was setting it looked like the trees were on fire.In New Brunswick, I watched waves crash into shore at Cape Enrage which more than lived up to its name that day. The Cape juts more than seven kilometres into the Bay of Fun-dv. We explored the lighthouse and later marvelled at the Giant Flowerpots at Hopewell Rocks.Over time, these sandstone formations have been can ed from the cliffs and coves by the tides. At high tide they look like islands with trees and other vegetation on them and at low tide you can walk around them on the beach and they are huge.That will also give you an idea of how high those Fundv tides rise. Some of the formations look like giant misshaped toadstools and others have been given nicknames based on their appearance such as Lover’s Arch and Dinosaur rock.ix _The Magnetic Hill at Moncton’s zoo was a must-see and must-do. At the top of the hill you move over to the left and drive down to the bottom. There you put the car in neutral, take your foot off the gas and have the incredible experience of feeling yourself going uphill backwards. I’m told it’s an optical illusion but preferring the magic and the thrill of it all, I had to tty it twice.Green Gables Heritage Place is the inspiration for the fictional tale of Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery. Montgomery never lived at her cousin’s farm but loved to explore the woods and fuel her imagination.Exploring the house, the Haunted Wood and Lover’s Lane and sitting in an old-fashioned horse-drawn buggy more than fuelled my own imagination.It also affirmed why my cousin commented after my second trip on the Magnetic Hill “really Therese, just how old are you - 6?” In the words of crime fiction novelist Catherine Aird “if you can’t be a good example then you’ll have to be a horrible warning”.The Confederation Bridge joins Prince Edward Island and New Brunsw ick. It’s curved, it’s 12.9 km long and takes about 10 minutes to drive across. I was really excited to be behind the wheel for this leg of the trip.I do love bridges and driving across this one would give me bragging rights if anyone would care to listen. The toll rate is based on axle and is $44.25 for the first two axles (passenger vehicle). It should be noted that I was only allowed to drive across this bridge once!There were so many tilings to see and do. Some were full of fun like riding the funicular in old Quebec City by the Chateau Fron-tenac down to the harbour to see the tallest of all tall ships, a Russian ship at anchor there.Others, like visiting the Titanic Graves at the Fair-view Lawn Cemetery in Halifax were more sombreand emotional. Who knows, maybe we'll even surprise them with a sing-along.No-one wants to listen to automated phone calls and I find them even more annoying when they’re recorded on my voice messaging system. No problem now! A friend told me to press 33 and it goes right to the end of the message - voila! Now I take great satisfaction in deleting it without having to listen to the babble. Incidentally, pressing 3 will forward the message by 10 seconds.Useful if you don't want to listen to a lengthy message again, but just want to repeat the phone number the person left while speaking faster than their mouth could actually move.If you’re wondering about the Water Street Bridge project, wonder no more. Here’s the scoop: the province received so many grant applications from the western part of the province that they were unable to approve the grant at the time.The committee is hoping they’ll have a better chance in 2013 and they are diligently working towards that goal. So far. $273,000 has been raised. The funds are still held in trust at the Whitemouth branch of the Sunova Credit Union.There have been many donations from the community, some $100. some $500 and $ 1,000 and to maintain privacy for all donors, we won’t mention names just now but you know who you are.
