Bruce BellBadge Collection To Be DisplayedTom Koeninger Becomes First Student On Thomas More Staffaddition, he is attempting to organize transportation to and from Cincinnati for dormitory students who do not own cars.What does a policeman do with his day? Where is his office? The answers will Ik* available at the annual open house at District Three Police Station, 3201 Warsaw Ave., Pr ice Hill, scheduled for Sunday from two to five p.m.Capt. Bruce Bell, commander, and the policemen under his command will be hosts to all citizens of District Three. At intervals during the afternoon. City officials will also be on hand to greet visitors.At 2:30 p.m., songs and short dances will be performed by second grade children from Resurrection School. Capt. Bell has been the recipient of greeting cards from hundreds of students from the 30 elementary , schools under the protective arm of the District Three police, and the cards will be on display.Also on display will be more than 200 historic police, sheriff, honor guard, County police, marshal and Work House guard badgespthe collection of Police Sp. Patrick Qlvey, whose total collection is close to 400.Sp. Olvey collects bits of history with his badges and has learned that Cincinnati had no police for many years after it was. founded in 1802... In 1846 Pearl Street merchants started providing private police. The office of the Chief of Police, now held by Col. Jacob Schott, was established by the City in 1859.Badge 20 in the collection was issued $9 Patrolman Oscar Kelly on June 22, 1911. In 1965 a workman repairing a sewer line in the basement of the Washington Park band stand dug it up. Patrolman Kelly’s daughter saw the badge in Sp. Olvey’s collection and explained her father was involved in a fight while on duty. The badge was torn from his uniform and lost. A badge belonging to the First Cincinnati truant officer is also part of the collection..Tours of the station will include a squad car open for inspection and a marksmanship demonstration on the pistol range in the basement. Roll call and shift change between 3 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. are always interesting to observe. Cookies and punch provided by merchants and other interested people will be served by the Police Community Relations gcoup which is sponsored by the National Conference of Christians and Jews, and the Cincinnati Division of Police.A District Three Police officer covers at least, three and a half square miles a day and protects 15,000 people. He checks the security of 160 places of business, oversees 40 of the 275 cafes by controlling the drunks, fights and checking permits, he supervises safety for seven of the 41 schools in District Three and - investigates offenseCollege’s mini -bus and faculty-car.His principal, goal is to help establish responsibility in the dormitory community.
