Coonskin Gets Memorial ParkSeveral hundred acres of land adjoining the Kanawha county airport on Coonskin ridge have been set aside by the county court for the establishment of a Memorial Park to honor those who have lost their lives in World War I and II and previous conflicts, Mont Cavundor, court president., announced Saturday.The action, which was endorsed by John Brawley post No. 20, American Legion, was taken by the court at a meeting Saturday,Mr. Cavender, along with Commissioners Carl Calvert and J. G. Carper, issued a statement whichsaid that the coupty court, “believing that a living, growing me-morial would more fittingly express the Wishes of our honored dead, does hereby obligate itself to establish, develop and maintain a park consisting of several hundred acres of land, lying adjacent to the Kanawha county airport; and the county court expresses the hope that with the passage of time such a pork will become increasingly beautiful and a useful recreation ground and a fitting token of gratitude of our people; and something that will contribute to the happiness and welfare of our citizenship/*With these ideas in mind the county court respectfully dedicates as a Memorial Park the lands mentioned and expresses the hope that .succeeding county courts will add to the size and usefulness of this a 'Memorial park.ie; The court further ordered that shj plans be considered and that appropriate action be taken so that, as soon as Kanawha airport is completed, the park may be developed and made available for public use.
