Club names Francis Brelsford Short Gap Senior of the Year**SHORT GAP, W.Va. - The Short Gap Seniors met recently at Wesley Chapel with 37 members attending. Guests included Rena VanMeter, LaVada Armentrout, and Linda and Sam Lease.A covered-dish dinner began with prayer offered by Francis Brelsford. Devotional Lead Sally Long read from the Book of Psalms and a poem. Soapy McCullough led the group in the flag salute.Blood pressures wre taken by Mrs. Lease, assisted by Mary Francis Brelsford. Secretary June Dixon and Treasurer Helen Parker read their reports. Alvin Carder reported on the Neighborhood Crime Watch program.A trip to the Sight and Sound dinner theater was discussed. President Virginia Spencer thanked volunteers for cleaning the meeting room. Poems were read by Loretta Houdersheldt, Wanda Kenney, Lola Arnold,and Ms. Spencer. Mr. McCullough told senior citizen jokes.Hellen MuCullough presided at the presentation of the Short Gap Senior of the Year title to Francis Brelsford, escorted by Jesse Isner. She was honored by all members and her husband, Lloyd Brelsford; daughter, Janet Weaver; son, Doug Brelsford; and grandsons, ‘sisters and niece.Mrs. Brelsford has been active in the Short Gap Seniors and Wesley Chapel Church. She retired in 1989 as a cook from Short Gap Elementary School. Cake and punch were served as members and family recalled moments of their friendship with Mrs. Brelsford.The next meeting will be Thursday, Sept. 20, at 5 p.m. at the Wesley Chapel.Century Club
