KAY KYSER TO PLAY AT CIVIC FRIDAY NIGHT“Evenin’ folks, how y’ all?”That characteristic North Carolinian drawl of Kay Kyser which opens all of his radio broadcasts] 1]lt; Ii1 Cc \Kay Kyser 11will be heard at first hand by a hundreds of his fans at the Pasa- * dena Community Dance Friday € (Sept. 1) in the Civic Auditorium 1 ballroom. Kay and his men are ' playing a one-night engagement 1 and their music will go over the ( CBS network via KNX at thei regular Community Dance broadcast period.Kay Kyser is one of that “fraternity” of ace band leaders produced by the University of North Carolina which includes Jan Garber, Hal Kemp, John Scott Trotter and “Skinnay” Ennis, all of whom have played at the Community Dance.Kay’s real fraternity, however, is Sigma Nu at the U. of N. C. where as a student he managed the school’s major musical shows,was cheer leader and directed an orchestra. Four of his original musicians are with him yet.Ginny Simms is girl vocalist with the Kyser band. ‘Ish Ka-bibble” (Merwyn Bogue), who is also trumpeter and band manager, does most of the specialtynumbers. Other singers are Harry Babbitt, who does the song titles, and Sully Mason. Togetherthey do wonders with “The Three Little Fishies.”
