The grand total of our population of all sorts, according to thelast censu*, was 1:2,866.020* (which »s generally supposed, has now reached 16*080,000;)Of the 12*866,020* there were 2,009,043slaves, and 319,539 free negroes. Leavingout Hie negroes, 1 have given the white population of each State, making 10,526,218, including paupers, minors, females and aliens.Deduct females alone, amounting to nearlyone half, and we have 5,255,133, males. Onio having no s aves, and [but I few tree negroes.] lias a population of 929,-| 829 whites, which, on the esla I),idled ratio ofj 47,709 for each VongrcsMonal District, givesher nineteen Representatives, ba sed on her white population, 604,009, w hich, on the same ratio of47.590 to each Representative, would entitle her to fourteen Representatives only; but ly virtues of her free negro population ot47,348, is entitled to one more; and by virue of three ffihs of her slave population of 409,-667, she is entitled to six more; making her compliment of twenty one Representatives, elected, too (under the more restricted right of suffrage in Virginia,) by less than one hall the number of voters that elect the smaller number of nineteen Representatives in Ohio.Note.—Florida has 10,385 whites, and 15.345 negroes; 844 being free.
