INTERESTING STATISTICS. •The following interesting facts .and observations are extracted ficm Dectef Mnyo's ‘Chart of the Organization of the Govern-nents of North American Republics:”Fable showing the white population and Congres'aon.tl representation of the several States and the United States.S fATES.Maine,Wow - Hampshire, Vi rmont, . The grand total of our population of all sorts, according to thelast censu*, was 1:2,866.020* (which »s generally supposed, has now reached 16*080,000;)Of the 12*866,020* there were 2,009,043slaves, and 319,539 free negroes. Leavingout Hie negroes, 1 have given the white population of each State, making 10,526,218, including paupers, minors, females and aliens.Deduct females alone, amounting to nearlyone half, and we have 5,255,133, males. Of te these again, at least one hall are minors; so (r that we have little more than two and a half itH millions of inen, to boast of, for protecting the rest; There is another delusion:—TheStates above di*tin£ui?d»ed by asterisks arerehlt;itilmasthli\generally considered as slave holding States, gu and the. rest as non-slave holding State;..where- j as, there an; but two Stales Vermont and Mnssnchu'elis in who h there* are not slaves jj^more or-less. In D^h ware there lire 3^292, |uin New Jersey lie re are 2,253; tnd in Penn--\ lv.»ma, tin re are 493. 'There is still more ;c| givatrr d la ton: This population of all (,-orts* in each o( tins * tat* ?. is the basis of u] He-ir cougi\ s-iniia. r^pr ia t.iie pP| Untar in* in b of lie* N.iii-m.il \ ,i .ga p •, de-’fMm ting only two-tiftlis of the .slaves io He* ^ si.iv* -.! addin States, and nothing tor Un-ir ; great popul iiir-n of free negroes who. in tins jj aasis, rouiii one for one will) the whites: p whereby, these Slates have a much greater ^ representation, in proportion to I heir white j p population, than free* States. Under this p view, it is obvious that the abolition, of Slave-;t|ry would iuimedi itely give tin; present slave-;holding States an increase of their Uoiignvs- ti-ional representation of sixteen m* tubers, ar-|'|cording to their H ue population-of ‘Hu* last ncensus: and Ibis pn pondeinnce would ini’ rease bereaftei, ins* cad of 'being diminished, lor which there would lie no remedy except by. r»n amendment of the- t oiistiuuimi, in regard to tin; basis of representation, which isutterly impracticable. Take, for the illustration of the above, the two States, Ohio «%lidI Virginia. Onio having no s aves, and [but I few tree negroes.] lias a population of 929,-| 829 whites, which, on the esla I),idled ratio ofj 47,709 for each VongrcsMonal District, givesher nineteen Representatives, ba sed on her white population, 604,009, w hich, on the same ratio of47.590 to each Representative, would entitle her to fourteen Representatives only; but ly virtues of her free negro population ot47,348, is entitled to one more; and by virue of three ffihs of her slave population of 409,-667, she is entitled to six more; making her compliment of twenty one Representatives, elected, too (under the more restricted right of suffrage in Virginia,) by less than one hall the number of voters that elect the smaller number of nineteen Representatives in Ohio.Note.—Florida has 10,385 whites, and 15.345 negroes; 844 being free. The District of t olumbia had 27.553 whites and 12,-27L negroes, 1,152 being free.wcvtVlt;1I\€t(tI1lt;J
