Choir members left San Diego Saturday night andarrived in Los Angeles Sunday morning before time for the broadcast.Rev. Settle who left San Diego, where the broadcast was to have originated, immediately after his group failed to appear for the broadcast, arrived in Los Angeles late Sunday. He refused to make any statement for publication.A Mrs. Hamilton, who identified herself as acting manager for the organization quoted Rev. Settle as saying “Any statement will have to oome from Miss Eleanor Inman of the Columbia Broadcasting System in New York.”Choir members, however, were vociferous in their bitterness a-gainst the treatment they claim to have received from the leader of their organization. Their complaints were based mainly on thefollowing “injustices.”“The average salary paid is $52.50 per week, but out of that we must pay our own expenses. Transportation from city to city is furnished, but once we reach the outskirts of a city we are on our own. 'V“No consideration is given at all in case of illness. If a member becomes ill and fails to make a scheduled appearance, then a day’s pay is deducted for each day he is unable to appear.“Although we have been on tour since April of 1946, none of us have received any vacation nor will any be given. In that time we have average 6 days work per week. Since July 19. we have been on a ‘lay off.' This means that.although we are on the road and many miles from home, we are paid only for the days when we give performances. No matter how many performances are given in one day—no matter how mgnyperformances are *paid appearances,' we receive only one day's■ j rChior members insisted that It was impossible to negotiate with Rev. Settle. Any member who expressed dissatisfaction in the past was immediately replaced, according to their statements.Emory Barnes, Baritone, who has been personnel manager of the choir since 1942 resigned last week in protest against what he termed Rev.
