From the Washington Globe.We learn from the Mississippi, that on the 31 Ht of July,two or three hours before day, a party of from 80 to 100 Sacs and Fox Indians, surprised a Menominee ('amp, 3 or 400 yards above old Fort Crawford, on the east side ofthe Mississippi, and killed twenty five of the la/ter, and wounded many, who may probably recover. There were about thirty or forty Menominecs, men, women and children in the camp, most « f whom were drunk, and the women ) had conceal' d their guns and knives to prevent their hurting each other. The 8acs and Foxes, though generally su perior in numbers and attacking by surpiise a drunken and unarmed encampment, lost several men, w ho were seen to fall in the onset, and retreated in less than ten minutes witli only a few scalps, pursued by four or five Menominees, who fired upon them un til they were half a mile below the vil-lage.The party killed, consisted of one war chief, three head men four war riors, sit women and eleven childrenThe massacre of the Menominees is a most audacious aggression, not only against the unfortunate sufferers, hut against the authority of the UnitedStates. The Menominees were on a visit to our post Prairie du Chien, were sleeping under the tlag of the United S.i*.c3j and almost under the guns of the fort The assail'ng pail crossed from the west bank of the Mississippiand made their attack in defiance of the power which has hitherto, in agreat degree, been enabled to hold in check, the fierce tribes even when at a distance from the military posts. The violence recently committed w ithin thevery precincts of the national authority ’ will recjuire the inti rposition of the aim of the government, that an exam pie may be made by bringing the murderers to Justice.I
