FOGO NEWS.(Concluded.)NFORTUNATELY, their once pretty place is no longer green. Rut eanly brows already show determiua-ion, strong arms already wield the axeimong u the black boys, and soon comfortable homes, destroyed by the forest Ires, will again be rebuilt. The loss of gardens did not amount to much this rear, owing to the dryness of the season. Mature will awake again. The greatest loss is certainly the timber destruction; but even this is not completely consum’d. Timber will be always growing, as sure as “ there are as good a fish in the water as over was caught.” To help and ;h*er these brave fellows in their laborious, but to them happy, work, is indeedi pleasure. The GovernmentUrn* Neul Lumber to Tlietn, ind the representatives of the two districts, who arc here—Messrs. Karlc and ( lift—have visited and interceded forthem; so their losses will soon be repaired. Why can these people he so happy? Recause they accept the work which God gives them as His work. They like to work for Him willingly, and will enjoy its reward. They are a live and earnest people. I have just been around the Iistriet of Fogo with Rev. 10. A. Rutler, missionary there, and must say there is every proof of this. Young men and maidens, old men, women and children, attend church regularly, join most heartily in the services Sundays and week-days whenever they can, audheartilySupport Tlieir Clergymanand everything connected with his labor of love. Sunday Schoojs, liible Classes and Societies at certain seasons give very happy events, hut the happiest of all, surelv, is u the Sunday School treat.v I had the pleasure of attending it. not only at Fogo, but at all the principal settlements of the district. Nothing could be more enjoyable than its perfect feast and fun with the happiest of all happiness-promoting the pleasures of the children; no ladies and gentlemen could be more worthy than those kind friends at Fogo, to whom are due much credit for the many splendid picnics there this summer, which were such a pleasure to enjoy. It is very noticeable,In Kvery ritice, that the Ti:ij;lt;;kam is the popular paper Of course, the business men take ail our daily papers, while the /)n.e,nn Magazine reaches every Churchman's house, either through personal or club subscriptions. Education! Everywhere the people are m»w praying to receive it. Idle increased grant will be appreciated by everyone. Two new high school buildings are now being built by tlie efforts of tin* people— one at Fogo and one at doe Batt’s Arm. Each will accommodate 250 scholars. May clergy men, teachers and peoplethink n.ore seriously than ever about edu-#cation. They must*stirely get as good as in Canada, England or the United States, if their sous, daughters, and our IslandHome are toI’roaper in Competitionwith those in other parts of the British dominions. Those three things:—re-fiigeralors, life-boats and increased grants for education, will certainly repay ail concerned. Next spring will be the time to rejoice over it. The Government can aflord its thanks for God’s blessing and wise ministration. Don’t you think our people deserve it? I am sure they both desire and deserve it, and the editor of the Tici.icguam—the people’s paper—is just theone to help make these needs and prospects known. [ beg to remain, Yours very truly,P. G.
