The greatest competition in the livestock division was in the 4-H Dairy Cattle class. Over 80 4-H dairy animal* were shown. State Fair trip winners were: Dorothy Crabb from the Shining Stars 4-H club with a purebred Holstein cow; Duane Guck of the Shining Stars with an Advanced grade Holstein; Delbert Meyer of the Leaf Lakes club with a grade Holstein yearling: Bobby Finberg of the Homestead Northern Lights with purebred Jersey yearling: Barbara Ar-vidson of the Eastern Stars with a purebred Brown Swiss yearling; Fred Wurst Jr. of the Shining S'ars with a grade Holstein calf; Gloria Iverson of Parkers Prairie Busy Bees with a grade Guernsey calf: Christian Haugen of the Leaf Lakers with a grade Holstein calf: Roger Iverson of the Parkers Busy Bees with a grade Guernsey yearling: and Eugene Sonnenberg of the Dora Boosters with a purebred Holstein yearling.Margaret Guck of the Shining Stars will exhibit a Dual purpose Shorthorn calf.These dairv members received •how blankets from the East Ot-•er Tail Unit of the Consolidated Breeders’ Cooperative.ing. These members with the exception of Donald Berger, will receive a trip to the State Fair, to compete in the 4-H livestock judging contest. Donald Berger will be competing in the FFA judging at the Fair, so in his place on the 4-H team will be James Luhning of the Otlertiil Jolly Workers.This yenr for the first time, ihe livestock was divided in the barns according to 4-H clubs. A herdsman trophy was provided by the East Otter Tail Unit of the Con-I solidated Breeders’ Coop. This trophy is to be awarded to the club doing the best job of keeping their stalls and livestock clean and constantly having an attractive club display. Charles Me-Quay of the Oak Valley HiLiters won a trip to the State Fair on a purebred Hereford heifer and Gary Koennicke of the Homestead Northern LighU received a trip to the Junior Livestock show on an Angus steer.In the sheep division Rodney Ojala of thr Heinola Hustlers will go to the S’ate Fair with a South-down ewe lamb and Loren Hoyh-tya of Leaf Lakers with a Hampshire ewe lamb.The trip to the Junior Livestock show was won by Terry Manselle of the Compton Go-Getters and Robert Tervola of the Leaf Lakers with Southdown wethers.Other activities going on at the Fair was a square dance party on Saturday night for 4-H members. ! On Sunday afternoon. Die Leaf Lakers 4-H club won the 4-H softball tournament.As an added feature for 4-H ! members this year. Archery les-1 sons were conducted. This contest provided 4-H and FFA members an opportunity of competing for a position on the dairy and general livestock judging teams that will be judging at the Minnesota State Fair.
