Karel, Sr., one- of the jest known Bohemians of thisco.untry and father of Judge John C, Karel of Milwaukee, who Is a candidate for governor of Wisconsin, died at St. Paul, Sunday afternoon. He was 63 years of age.Judge Karel was located in Oconto, county while campaigning and he went to Green Bay, departing during the evening for St. Paul to bring the remains of his father to Kewaunee, where a Masonic funeral was conducted Wednesday, ‘John C. Karel, Sr.,* was consul general to the Russian empire during Cleveland’s Inst, term, and prior, to that he was consul at Prague,He was a pioneer settler in Kewaunee county und established the first bank there in 187 5. He was president of the American bank in Chicago at the time of his death.Mr. Karel served as a member qf the Wisconsin assembly. He held several offices in Kewaunee county, and was mayor of jAlgoma at one time. Ho was a candidate in 1886 for insurance commissioner in this state.The relatives who survive him are two sons. Judge-John C, Karel of Milwaukee and L.A lbert Karel of Kewauneejand a daughter,. Mrs. C. L, Templeton of Minneapolis, atwhose home he passed away. » -
