Cburcli at Alexandria.Miss Lillian; Pieken will take the Chicago flyer this evening for the east, her ultimate destination being Alexandria, Egypt, where she will be employed in missionary work at a girls’ college established by the United Presbyterian ehnrcb.In Chicago she will meet one of theofficers of the foreign' missionary society of that cfaarch and will accompany her from that city to Cambridge, Ohio, Washington and Carnegie, Pa,, finally visiting the headquarters of the society at Pittsburg. Only short stops will be made at these places as they will leave Pittsburg on Monday of next week for New York City in company with a body of students and missionaries. The party will sail from the metropolis on Tuesday on the Hambnrg-American steamship Moltke, crossing the Atlantic and prssing through the Strait of (Gibraltar into the Mediterranean' sea, the first port of entry being Naples about September I5tb, and then the party will have a three days’ rest and an opportunity to visit that historic city. They will embark again on September 18th for Alexandria, arriving at their destination about September 23rd.Miss Pieken will remain in Egypt for seven years, and all of her time will be given over to missionary work. The first year Bhe will devote to a study of Arabic, and will assist in the English department of tho college. When she has acqnired a working knowledge of the Arabian language she will be transferred to some other department of the institution, just what it will be she does not know.The work in its foreign missionary societies offered by the United Presbyterian church to qualified applicants openB a splendid field for ambitious American girls, and this paper wishes Miss Pieken success.The Yankee Drummers.
